Our School
Combs Center for Success (CCS) is an alternative school site specializing in smaller environments for students who enjoy working in non-traditional classrooms. We offer three unique schools on our campus: Combs Center for Success Middle School, Combs Center for Success High School and Combs Online School for Success. CCS is focused on a holistic approach where students are at the center of their own instructional experiences. CCS is designed to meet the needs of students who, for a variety of reasons, are not happy with or are unable to reach their full potential at the traditional middle school or high school campuses.
Combs Center for Success High School (CCSHS) students will follow a schedule focused on credit recovery or acceleration. CCS students follow a full day schedule from 7:30am to 2pm. EVIT students and Early Release students have a modified schedule and a flex program is offered for students who combine two (2) days of in-person learning with three (3) days of online learning. Six core classes in Edgenuity offer self-pacing and individualized learning with a blended learning approach on electives during face-to-face time. An advisory class offers college/career readiness topics, weekly goal setting, and social/emotional support. Students who desire to accelerate the completion of credits are strongly encouraged to attend face-to-face instruction.
Combs Online School for Success (COSS) is available to students who need a personalized schedule and wish to work solely online. The student can create a schedule that is adjustable around work or family schedules and that allows for self-pacing. Students must be self-motivated and responsible. Requirements include the completion of 25 hours per week which are submitted by parent/guardian through digital log ins. Online learners work on 4-6 classes at a time, accelerating their completion of coursework. Students are assigned a one-to-one mentor teacher who guides their progress. Scheduled meetings are conducted to track their hours, monitor course progress, and provide timely information on on-campus opportunities. The student can also reach out to their subject teachers for questions regarding their courses.
All CCS schools utilize Imagine Edgenuity and Edge EX as their learning platform. Students may also participate in EVIT, JROTC, Dual Enrollment, and Work Experience programs. Interested students can participate in athletics and activities at their home school (Combs High School) if they remain in good standing and have eligibility. All students interact with certified teachers on the CCS campus, either face-to-face or virtually. Graduates receive their diploma from Combs Center for Success and the J.O. Combs Unified School District.
